Both Donna Szoke's reasonable & senseless and Ricarda McDonald's Spatial Nebulosity utilize play and humour in considering contemporary societal relationships to technology. Donna Szoke's 20-channel video installation questions notions of progress with appropriated film clips amassed from the Prelinger Archive. Scenes of human/machine disasters serve as backdrops for letters formed from clouds of smoke (spelling out the title of the piece over time).
Donna Szoke received a BA from the University of Winnipeg. She was a lead designer on numerous Guy Maddin feature films, earning international recognition for her design. She has since completed a video internship, a technical diploma in sculpture and a BFA and MFA from SFU in Vancouver. Her body of work includes single channel video, multiple channel video installation, installation, drawing and collaboration. She exhibits internationally.
